Haryana BJP’s chief media coordinator, who announced Rs 10 crore bounty for anyone who would kill Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone, has resigned from his post. Suraj Pal Amu said that he was upset over Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar allegedly skipping a meeting with representatives of the Karni Sena yesterday, reported PTI. Amu reportedly sent his resignation to the state BJP chief, Subhash Barala, over WhatsApp. His resignation came a day after the Haryana unit of the party served a show cause notice to him seeking explanation over his controversial remarks. Amu stated in his resignation letter that he had worked with full dedication for the party over the past few years, but felt that “CM Khattar does not need dedicated workers and office bearers. Khattar is surrounded by a coterie which is taking him away from dedicated workers for the last three years.”
Earlier, a right-wing leader in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut had announced Rs 5 crore bounty for the assassination of Bhansali and Deepika. The right-wing brigade is protesting over filmmakers allegedly distorting history in their film Padmavati.
The filmmakers have already decided to postpone its release, scheduled for 1 December. The Central Board of Film Certification, also known as Censor Board, has rejected the film’s application twice. However, Padmavati has been passed uncut by the British censor board. Amu had reportedly said, “We will reward the ones beheading them with Rs 10 crore and also take care of their family needs…We know very well how to treat those who insult the Rajput community.” Noted actor and activist Shabana Azmi had slammed Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani for her silence on the controversy. Her lyricist husband, Javed Akhtar, had criticised the members of former Royal family questioning their pride during the British rule in India.
